Backbend Yoga Poses: Ashtanga Dropbacks by Lucas

Wow, is it true that anyone can become 'OMG' flexible...

This is Lucas Rockwood who is a yoga teacher and nutritional coach that studied raw food nutrition. According to Lucas, anyone can become super flexible as flexibility is not genetic but is developed through physical practice and proper diet.

He says people move their limbs through a wide range of motion on a regular basis tend to be really flexible. So, if we want to improve our flexibility, we need to start stretching 5 days per week for about fifteen minutes each day. However, he recommends a fast track stretching in his YogaBody Handbook and nutritional supplement designed specifically for flexibility (www.yogabodynaturals.com). I'm not so keen to try the supplement yet but would take his recommendation on green foods such as spirulina, chlorella, barley grass juice extract, wheat grass, seaweeds, sea vegetables and etc.

He also suggests to avoid coffee as caffeine sucks the water out of our system, fries our nerves and makes us tense and stiff. I also read an e-article from Yoga Journal that caffeine can perk us up and make us more alert, but dependence on it could hinder our yoga practice. Caffeine overload can trigger anxiety attacks, jitteriness, impatience, mood swings, and insomnia. I agree to it as I start experiencing it already, I’m a regular Nescafe taker (at least once a day). I have been trying my best to withdraw it and replace with ‘milo’. But after trying few weeks, I failed and take it back again (no wonder I'm so stiff in performing most of the yoga postures)… The article also stated that caffeine withdrawal may lead to irritability, constipation, and headaches. So, most experts recommend a slow, gradual decrease in caffeine intake and may try replacing our daily caffeinated beverages with Hibiscus Flower Drink and Avocado Frappe. I think I will try to reduce my Nescafe intake and take green tea as a substitute slowly as someone in YogaJess’ blog has recommended green tea lately.

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I'm coffee addict too. Once a day is a must. Don't know how to cut it down. But I will try and see. Thanks.

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your comment here. Finally found someone appreciate this post which is irrelevant to YZ matter.

Same as you, I take Nescafe at least once a day. Been trying very hard to withdraw it but failed. So, just try to take the advice from the experts to decrease the caffeine intake gradually as
immeadite caffeine withdrawal may lead to irritability, constipation and headaches. I allow myself to take it twice a week now instead of daily and replaced it with milo and orange juice. I have started this habit since last week and hope can maintain it.

Hope you can also cut down your coffee intake as too much of caffeine intake will really affect our health. Wish you Good Health and have a nice week ahead. Cheers ^_^
