The Classes at Yoga Zone are "ON" This Week

Glad to know that the volunteered teachers and staffs that worked for the past 11 days will be paid for a small amount as a little remuneration to them. Today's meeting sounds positive as classes will be continued for this week till Sat as Sun and Mon are public holidays, our National Day. Another meeting will be held again on 2nd Sep and hope there will have an outcome.

While preparing the post for today just now, thought of Ms Lim Lay Gaik who has taken effort to save and solve the YZ's financial crisis. Wonder she can give an idea how long the receiver needs to sort out the mess of YZ. As such, sent a sms to her hoping some answers. Really a shock to me that she called me immediate right after my sms. She is a very kind and helpful lady that trying her best to clear my doubts. In fact, she can't intefere any progress at this stage as YZ is fully under the receivership. However, she told that the receiver seems having discussion with potential investors but nothing can be revealed at this stage as it is private and confidential. But it sounds a positive sign to me, at least a hope. She said that the receiver would arrange meeting with all the members at respective outlets soon, may be next week. They have been trying their best to arrange as many classes as possible for all outlets and Bukit Tinggi Klang has no classes at the moment due to location is too far for the teachers to travel to. Anyway, they are looking for the solution. As for the hygiene matter, they will try to get the outlet be cleaned over this long weekend when no classes are on.

Spring always come after Winter and hope the Winter at YZ to be over soonest possible. May God bless all of us...

Thanks for the 'good' news; though, in actual fact, there is still no news yet! I am just glad for the time being that there are classes scheduled for the rest of the week. I have postponed my subscription elsewhere for the time being.

I am sure Ms Lim Lay Gaik and the potential investors have been reading this blog and are also aware that the longer the uncertainty and indecision drags on, the more and more teachers and members will go elsewhere. Did someone say in one of the comments on this blog that Ken is considering jumping ship to One Yoga? And Azmi, Matthew and a few others are teaching in other yoga centres highlighted by you? I really hope Ms Lim Lay Gaik can convince the investors to act fast.

I dun think the foreign instructors are allowed to teacher in other yoga centers as they are tied to YZ contract. Tats what I heard.
I am busy looking for ohter yoga centers but sad to say none of them up to my expectation. Furthermore I am not so keen about
yearly membership etc cos IU learnt a bitter lesson fr YZ. My GC (life time membership) just gone with the wind. I am still paying my 4th installment this mth.

Hi evelyn,

We found that Azmi and Indra are teaching at sunyoga. Please refer to the comments of the previous post on 20 Aug "Other Choices of Yoga Centers".

In fact, not only the foreign teachers tied up contract with YZ. All the local teachers are tied up too and they have set some unreasonable clauses such as the teachers are not allowed to operate or establish a same nature of business as YZ for 3 years upon the termination of their contract/agreement. However, understood from my HR friend with legal's advice that this clause is illegal and can be ignored as the company cannot stop the employees from operating or establishing a business which the nature of the business and trade is identical or even similar to that of the Employer for such a long period of 3 years. Otherwise, how can the employees survive if this is their only profession or skill to earn for living. Moreover, YZ is the one breached the contract for not paying staffs' salaries for 3 months and with an outstanding of epf, socso and incaome for a year.

The problem encountered by the foreign teachers now is the tax issue. They are not allowed to return to their home countries without settling their tax which was owed by YZ/TJ. Pity to them as they in fact have paid the tax with their monthly salary deduction but all been taken by 'someone' or 'a team of management' for whatever purposes...

Thanks for ur information yogalover. I really pity the foreign instructors especially Deepak who is very new and now hunting for money.

Evelyn, agree with you that other centres are not up to expectation. Maybe we should wait till next week before signing up membership elsewhere? There are some limited classes going on at YZ except for Klang outlet. I myself am still hopeful that YZ will bounce back. My only concern is that all the good teachers (local or foreign) will be gone by the time the receivers and the potential investors come to a decision.

Heard tat there is a potential buyer. But he is only interested on 4 YC & 1YF.
Also heard tat the buyer will not honour the existing members.

Unknown said...

I heard the same!

The new buyer presses the reset button!
Everyone buys the new membership again disregard GC or yearly members.

I think the new investor will lose not only the valued teachers now and also the most valued customers - GC members which have the most passionate about yoga.

Maybe investor thinks that GC members afford to buy membership again, but GC will not willing to pay again, will look for other center definitely.

A long-term view buyer should honour the existing members, GC still paying yearly fees, and many workshops, retreat, conferences.. to come.

I heard the same too that there is potential investor interested in the YC at Cheras Plaza, Kepong, Puchong and Sri Petaling and also the YFitness (guess is the Klang one). Seems like the existing members need to pay certain fees or re-purchase new membership (not too sure but at least certain fee is required).

The receiver COULD BE trying their best to look for other interested investors for other outlets as it will be a huge capital or fund if to take over all at once.

However, there is no official announcement yet and this is only assumption and could be rumours. So better be patient for another week with the hope that the receiver and the potential investor could expedite the process and call for a public announcement. Otherwise, more doubts and rumours will be widely spread which may cause losing more students and good teachers.

Thanks everyone for sharing the (unconfirmed) news in advance of announcement. Dunno how true but am surely disappointed to hear that after the long wait - YZ The Weld will likely be ditched. But thanks, Yogalover for your optimistic comment - yes, hopefully the receiver succeeds in finding another buyer to take up YZ and other outlets.

OMG ARE U SUTE YZ THE WEKD WILL BE DITCHED.
I SIGN UP NMY GC THERE THIS YEAR.SO..WAT WOULD HAPPEN TO MY MEMBERSHIP..I THINK "COLDER THAN WATER".

No one knows the fate of YZ yet until the receiver make an announcement about the outcome of their effort and also very dependable on how the new investors (if any) to restructure the whole business.

Of course all the members hope YZ to be re-opened and maintain the existing memberships but doubt so, at least certain fees would be imposed (I guess).

Here to urge the receiver can quickly call for a meeting with all the members to clear our doubts, at least made known of the status, although no investors come in yet...

Am so disappointed that there has not been and will not be any evening classes at The Weld today and tomorrow. Sigh .... I guess the teachers are not so keen to teach at The Weld any more since there is no more hope there. Was so hopeful for the last few weeks that the yearly subscription fees taken by YZ will not go down the drain! Coupled with the news that YZ The Weld will not be kept alive anymore, guess I will move on elsewhere for yoga classes. Thanks, Yogalover, for your survey on other alternative yoga centres. The info is very helpful.

I signed up for a 1-year membership in YC for RM 1488 on 14/7/08. I haven't even activated my membership yet, would you believe it?

I'm still running on my FOC 3 months passes. Before I signed up, the consultant kept calling me to convince me to sign up, and a week after I signed up, I got to know the situation in YC.

When I called my consultant to confront him, he told me he's resigned!!!

I was really very angry with him, but what could I do? Money has been paid! I can't even get a refund! And I paid in full, no monthly instalment plan whatsoever!

I've used up my 1 month pass, and still have 2 months' worth of passes. I don't know if I even get to activate my membership.

What happens for people like me? Are the new investors going to make me forfeit the RM 1488 and then force me to pay a certain amount 'just so that' I could practise yoga in YC?

I don't want to be pessimistic. In fact I would love to share some of the teachers' optimism and just hope for the best. Please just don't disappoint me.

Namaste.

Sorry to hear that no evening classes at The Weld these 2 days. It could be due to the terrible taffic in KL these few days has scared the teachers going down to Golden Triangle in the evening.

One more alternate yoga studio can be considered for The Weld's students, i.e. Lightworks which located at the back of Istana Hotel and opposite to a new built office building. The Hatha Yoga fee is sligtly expensive than YZ but may go for a try first.
- Drop in Class @ RM40
- 5 classes pass @ RM170
- 12 classes pass @ RM350
- Private Class @ RM75/hour

In fact, Lightworks is a healing, self-help, metaphysics, yoga & new age store. Anyway, you may try to call for more info at 603-21432966 or check thru their webpage - http://www.lightworks.com.my

Please do share with us the experience there if anyone of you have tried there.

Hi lil' ms pinky,

Got to know from your blog that this 1-year YZ membership was actually your birthday gift from your boyfriend. So sorry and disappointed to hear that the sales consultant was so irresponsible as they should already aware the problem in the month of Jul. Too bad that I only started blogging recently in Aug, otherwise I should have posted it earlier...

Nothing much can be done now and let wait for another week as there should have a meeting next week between the receiver and YZ teachers & staffs. YZ/YF Klang members have also organised a member meeting on 5th Sep. Btw, you are the member from which outlet?

Thanks for introducing Lightworks on your blog, Yogalover. Felt so uneasy after browsing thru Lightworks' website. Noticed that Lightworks practises amongst others, angel divination, tarot reading, spiritual healing, energy pyschology, astrology etc etc, which are not compatible with my religious belief. I hv not looked at other yoga centres yet - hope they are not like Lightworks.

What I like abt YZ is that yoga is taught and practised at YZ in a way that is unrelated to religion. I will really miss YZ if it closes down for good. Let's all hope YZ recovers soon.

Yoga Lover said...

Don't worry about other yoga studios I posted here as all are mainly for yoga practicing and not related to any religion.

Lightwork in fact is a new age store and this is only place I can think of at the moment which is near to The Weld. Will try to search for more information to share.

Has anyone tried the yoga classes at Fitness First, California Fitness, Philip Wain and other fitness centres that offer yoga classes? Wld be great if readers can share their experience (esp on prices).

BTW, Yogalover - your efforts on this blog are appreciated. Pls do not take offence at my negative comments on Lightworks; they are not directed at you.

It's okay, don't worry as everyone is unique and has own opinion. And, I really appreciate your comments here. Btw, how should I address you?

In fact, I'm also a California Fitness member but I never attend their Yoga classes before. Will find one day to try and share if possible as most of the time unable to arrange the time for their schedule (too early to go to Mid Valley for their 7:10am class).

well yfitness here in kota kinabalu is totally in the toilet now, closed for 3 days, sat, sun, monday because its 'public holiday' duh, only sunday is public holiday lah. 'New' operating hours are from 12pm to 8pm only.
even if the new owners are going to honour existing membership, any idea how they going to make up for the crap level of service for the past 2 months.
