Yoga Centers at Klang Valley

The yoga business is getting more competitive since the official closure of YogaZone and YFitness. There are so many new established and upcoming yoga and fitness centers within Klang Valley these few months since August 2008, such as Life Yoga (Cheras), Light Yoga (Cheras), Yoga Mind (Kepong), Ojas Yoga (Bukit Jalil), YingYang Yoga (Poolside at Bukit Ceylon, KL), Urban Yoga (Kepong, Plaza Damas and Cheras), Yogasana Studio (Puchong), CHI Fitness (Centro Klang) and yogaloft (PJ).

At the same time, some of the existing yoga centers are also refurbishing, relocating or expanding their studios and this may help to grab some of the ex-YogaZone students.

Les Studio was shifted from Klang to PJ and so coincident it is located near to yogaloft's new setup studio. Believe it will be very competitive for them now as yogaloft is backed up by a well known established beauty company (etsu wellness) with huge capital (RM2.8 million investment as announced). Anyway, all consumers have different kind of needs and each business targets at their niche market. Like what "Blue Ocean" teaches to create own niche market and don't be caught in Red Ocean. Air Asia is a very good success story. (Ops... sorry that out of topic)

One Yoga was earlier informed their members that they are going to shift their studio from Kuchai Entrepreneur Park to Esplanade Arcade, Bukit Jalil due to the landlord at Kuchai Lama didn’t want to further extend the rental agreement. Moreover, the new 3-storey shoplot at the Esplanade Arcade is fully owned by them. They originally planned to open this new studio in Nov but later postponed to Dec 2008. However, just received a good news from them that they will remain the outlet at Kuchai Lama while the new studio at Bukit Jalil will be opened in Jan 2009 (instead of Dec 2008) as headquarter. Sounds great!

Hi Fei,

Thanks for the update.

In fact, I don't have much info about yogaloft. Moreover, it located quite far (either from my home or working place). So, yet to have time to visit it. Last Sat when went to One Utama to see their performance already made me caught in the jam and took an hour plus to reach there and kept on rounding the car park for 15 minutes to get a pparking space...

Appreciate if anyone has further details can update us here. Will try to visit their new studio next weekend (if possible) as need to attend seminar this weekend...

CHEERS ^_^

Hi Fei,Yogaloft had a soft opening today? What does that mean?Did they introduce any class today?Do u know when is their targeted opening date? Thanks :)

Anonymous said...

huh? soft opeining? no ah... i joined the lakeside class last sunday, the staff told us the classes starting next monday, soft launching on next wednesday.
i like their concept, sure won't get conned, members can attend classes then pay at the end of the month! other yoga centres shall learn from them, don't simply colect money up-front!
I already confirmed to sign with them, but Zen said that they will start membership sales from wednesday onwards, sign now some more got free classes to enjoy, good good good!

Hi Yogalover,

Thanks very much for putting up YinYangYoga as a studio establishment, but mine is a non-profitable organization, LOL.

It's just too much hassle running a people oriented business. I certainly do not want to be in the same situation as those ppl at yZ!

I would like to think that my pool side yoga is a refuge place for teachers and practitioners alike.

Yoga Lover said...

Hi SH,

Me too, wondering when is the opening and where can get further details... Seems all are in "???"

Anyway, just be verbally informed that yogaloft will start having classes on this Fri while having renovation. Yet to know the schedule and other details. No idea about the package and the operation hour etc.

They said in fact the studio was suppose ready for opening by 1st Nov as targeted. However, the renovation was not up to the expectation and they instructed to re-renovate again. It sounds they have certain standard and expectation...

Anyway, will follow up and hope anyone has detail can also update us here.

Thank you! ^_^

Hi, anyone knows where Jazzlyn is teaching now?

i went to yogaloft today after my dinner at one of the nice cafe at plaza kelana jaya.
they on the light and can see contractors are working full-force to get the place ready, i can tell you, though the furniture is not fully in yet, but as an iterior designer by profession, i can see their sincerity in setting up the place, the main color is "white", i manage to peep into one of the room right at the left side near the counter, i think it's a studio and it's all white also. Personally, white is my favorite color, so, the ambience will definitely attract me for the second visit to find out more.
Dear sh,
wednesday is not the launching la, it's only opened for registration with those pre-regsitered students. I'm staying at kelana jaya and can assure you they are really fast in renovation, last month when i was there it's nothing, for less than a month they can do-up quite a lot about the place, i really salute, simply it's 15,000sq.ft ( correct me if i'm wrong ). I would rather they go steady and slow than rushing out the place, as I want a real good placeto practice back yoga, variation days in renovation is very normal in ID industry.
Like YZ? no way! I was yz puchong member last time, if yz style, you will see lots of consultants persuading you to sign in advance and collecting money already; but they are quite professional, i have been to lakeside class two times and ask about package, all of them just say wait till opening, because they follow their tagline "after all, it's the experience that counts".
and also, i just wonder why everyone likes to compare yogaloft and yz? from what i know and study from the point of view of package, set up, back-up, it's completely different. is it just because other yoga operators felt threatened so simply comment? ( no offend )
anyway, let's give the best wishes to another genuine yoga centre opening la! don't curse people like yz crisis, cause i'll sign the package and if you curse them, you are cursing me, hmmm....

Anonymous said...

i agree with lan lan, well said! I'm going to sign also oh! don't curse us lah!
by the way, lan lan, me and lan hwa also puchong members, maybe we met you before but don't know your name only, we always join evening hot classes because we want to lose weight, especially the lower body part... sigh... nice jeans always don't have my size...:(

Yoga Lover said...

Hi Lan Lan,

Many thanks for the update.

I wish to go there for more latest update but the location is quite inconvenient for me as it is quite from my home and office. Can't drop by often for update like what I did previously for other studios. Anyway, will try to find time to go there for visit somewhen next week...

Everyone is so concern about yogaloft, that's why there are so many different comments here about the details and the opening date. Don't worry, no one is cursing here and I don't like people cursing too... So, enjoy your yoga practice there and do always share your joy with us. Cheers ^_^

I think yogaloft should send a invitation to those who had been registrated for wednesday soft launching!

Anonymous said...

aiyo...dear dear sh, your highness, wednesday is not the soft lauching la, why like you die die also want people to soft launch today leh? hmmm...very funny...

Anonymous said...

everybody please be patience lah...

Anonymous said...

yeah loh...as what yogalover mentioned, why "one yoga" postponed from december to january no one complain, why yogaloft you all attack huh? aiyo, yogaloft is by etsu japan, their big billboards already everywhere la, federal highway lah, eastin hotel lah, somemore one more at hartamas beside last time yoga zone billboard, spend so much don't want to open meh?

Anonymous said...

i was just there, David or(dawid) gave me a brief consultation. loved the presentation that was done on the laptop, impressive (trust me i'm from advertising & marketing line). their goals as explained by dawid is quite high, they are not just looking at local locations but planning international too. that's one of the main reason why a lot of effort is on design, operations and customer service. thank god i said....... it would be nice to be the focus for once. and not just people hounding customers to sign and get money.

etsusu: billboards and all are part of their awareness and teaser campaign. since your really keen and can't wait simply means that it's working ;)
i also can't wait, i'm staying about 5 minutes away only. dawid did also mention that he will call me soon as they will be starting free classes next week. he also did say that they are trying their best to make it sooner, but it's ok i can wait..... dawid was very patient with me, in answering all my questions (think i may have irritated him a bit also ;) )but after my experience in yz damas, which i'm still paying for my lifetime membership, i'd rather be safe then sorry.
package is pretty interesting, attend first pay later......... at least i can still budget my salary properly. with their new concept of butler service got me interested even more. dawid also explained to me that they will have a yoga cafe, all healthy food, will be a nice to the normal stuff that i eat everyday.

i also had a chance to meet one of their guru from india. Nice guy, we chatted a bit about my current level in yoga and he did give me some good pointers. looking forward to some of his techniques.

well all in all, i am very happy so that i've got something too look forward too. Yoga was my safe haven last time, i'm really looking forward to go back into it.

if compare point-to-point between yogaloft and urban yoga, i think yogaloft branding, positioning, deco is 100 times more "urban" than urban yoga!

Anonymous said...

If u want to join Yogaloft its up to your preference.. But do give respect to other yoga teachers, plus other yoga centres including oso d 'Urban Yoga'. Namaste!

Anonymous said...

no offend to anyone, respect is meant to be gain, it doesn't come in the package. If you want people to respect you, you should respect others first. I did give urban yoga a chance after yz closed down. When i walked to one of my ex-favorite pilates teacher under urban yoga, immediately he started to asked the students not to believe the founder's words and they are all victimized. What kind of respect do you think one deserves if you started it first? Hate the game, not the players.

i just signed up my yogaloft's package, my consultant is Nicole, very knowledgeable and polite, not pushy and hard-selling, the place is slightly dusty because of the renovations work, but Nicole brought me for an orientation tour, it gave me the WOW! factor, all studios are facing the beautiful kelana lake, hot yoga studio is solid timber wood flooring, however, my favorite spot is definitely the shower cubicles, is equipped with one personal powder area, i hate the feeling of dress and undress myself in front of others, this is perfect for me.
Thank you, yogaloft, i almost gave up on my practice, but i will join the "hello" class on friday, see you all.

Anonymous said...

i'm going tomorrow, dear cecilia, is Nicole really helpful? can i have her contact number?

Anonymous said...

anonymous 5.18pm,

i'm only doing comparison on the brand positioning by using the word "urban", nothing else, i never attack urban yoga teaching quality, sorry, as a branding personnel, my previous comment is talking about emphasis on branding angle. hope you can undertsand, eventually, i would hope all are on their toes to provide us the best quality of service, don't you?

Anonymous said...

dear yogalover,

do you know why i like your blog? because it's neutral, informative and non-biased, not like some other yoga bloggers, one likes to see how people die, another one like to attack people and cry over spilt milk, keep it up! keep at this direction and you will definitely be the most reputable yoga blog in malaysia!
well done.

Anonymous said...

i received a SMS from Urban Yoga that asked me to join their yoga centre...sigh!!!urban yoga why so cheap leh?

Anonymous said...

i also signed up my yogaloft package! They have hello class for this friday. It will be free class for Nov & unlimited class for Dec with a reasonable fees. The important is the limited yogaloft yoga mat.

Yoga Lover said...

Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds great! So, just be patient and wait for something you are looking forward. Cheers ^_^

=========================
Hi Neutral,

Agree with you that in order to gain other people's respect, we have to respect people first.

So, let all of us here respect everyone - no attack, no cursing... only sharing, opinion and discussion ^_^

=========================
Hi Cecilia@Sunway and SH,

Thought that yogaloft yet to start selling their packages. Anyway, can you share more about their packages with us here since you have just signed up? Thanks ^_^

=========================
Hi Urbanite,

Don't worry, believe you are kind to share opinion here. It is true that we hope all the yoga centers can provide us the best quality of service, so we as cusomers will be the biggest gainers... That's why monopoly always not good and benefit to consumers as no improvement without competition (no offence as it is my own opinion, haha...)

I believe Anonymous (19 Nov 2008 @ 5.18pm) is kind to raise his/her opinion here for being fair for all yoga centers, no bias.

=========================
Hi Anonymous (19 Nov @ 6:39pm),

Many thanks for your compliment and visiting the blog. Your participation have made the success of this blog. Cheers ^_^

ok, will drop by to have a look this weekend... :)

Anonymous said...

Dear yogalover,

Hmmm.. actually Nicole asked me to bring friends along to "experience" their "hello" class, many gurus will be teaching throughout the weekend, it's a good deal, i can have my class free immediately and december for a flat rate, and tell you what, an imported environmental friendly yoga mat, nice white color for only RM 1 !!!! original price RM 199! the mat is washable by washing machine and it's limited edition.
gambateh, my yogaloft! I love you all! muak muak!

Anonymous said...

dawid, are you the teacher last time in yoga zone? i lost your contact, can you email me your contact? you are now the consultant at yogaloft ya?
my email is juinnlee@gmail.com

Anonymous said...

i'm currently myoga member, but seems that less and less people going there, i worry something like yoga zone happens though i know it's nacked up by california, bacause the consultant there keep on persuading me to buy their "zenith" ( lifetime ) membership, it's scary. "attend first, pay later" like what Helen said is interesting. anyway, i'm staying at section 14, will pay a visit to yogaloft this weekend.

Anonymous said...

yogalover, can i have ur email? so i can email the info for you?

Anonymous said...

Haha!If its the black manduka mat for rm1 I will go sign up NOW!

Nice pics of Sean and Siew Mei from Yogaloft!

Yoga Lover said...

Hi Yogagirl,

Without Prejudice
YogaZone Crisis has caused a lot of people lost the confidence in lifetime membership.

I'm so sorry to say that I personally don't really trust it. No doubt lifetime membership will save more in long term but who can predict what will happen next, especially during the economic crisis now.

YogaZone was previously such a reputable large organasation with so many outlets in Malaysia. Moreover, they created the history to get Asia Yoga Conference held in Malaysia in 2007. I was so impressed by them and frankly speaking, I like yoga because of them... They have made me found my passion in yoga which help me improve in my health!

Anyway, above is only my personal opinion and no offence. Wish you All the Best and enjoy your yoga practice. CHEERS ^_^

dear Tangzi,
So i attend class 1st and pay later ke?ie if i attend 11 classes per month I pay 11 x rm10 ke?if i attend 20 class per monthe, is it stil rm10 per class so i pay 20 x rm10 at end of the month?can we pay by cash?or else? thanks in advance :)

Anonymous said...

i just got the consultation, it's quite the same as the mobile phone and utulities bills, the fees is from RM 128 onwards, more you join oif course more expensive, however, based on per class basis, it's still less than RM 12.
they seriously limit the number of members per outlet, and classes will increase progessively following the increment in number of members. This is to ensure something like last time yz won't happened again, all the classes are well-thought and well-calculated.
something i want to mention is their software, it's talored made to every single detail to suit the yoga members. YOU CAN EVEN BOOK THE POSITION OF THE MAT IN THE STUDIO! I used to worked in singaoire and joined pure yoga, they don't even have it! Gosh!
You are the hero, yogaloft!
BVy the way, i didn't sign yet but will sure come to sign on sunday, no worries, dawid.;-)

You can purchase Manduka black mat from Amazon.com and pay for the mat plus shipping fee. There should be no custom tax levied on the item as it's classified as sporting goods, and it's strictly for personal use.

I was in California and had visited Yoga Studio to check out the Manduka black mat. It's extremely sticky and it's very good for vigorous ashtanga moves or similar type of yoga/pilate exercises. However, I opted for the lighter version as the black is not meant for travelling use. It's way too heavy to carry from home to yoga studio.

BTW, you can't find the Manduka mats in any sports outlets, you've to visit one of their authorised retailers listed on their website.
