Urban Yoga - Cheras Plaza (3)

Urban Yoga Cheras Plaza is opened on 15 Oct 2008 (Wed) and giving free Trial Classes till end of Oct.

The ourlet looks like Yoga Zone previously but have touched up with new paints, new mats, all the places are cleaned and etc.
It remained the same with 5 studios. The reception, lounge, shower cabins, lockers and toilets are all the same structure. However the decorations are all removed and leave the reception looks vacant and empty as per the pictures below. Believe they will only decorate it with new design later as yesterday was the first day unofficially opening...

These are actually Studios 1 and 2 which the connecting doors are opened due to a number of students attended Serena's Urban Basic class @ 6:15pm yesterday.
Noticed that the mats at Studio 3, 4 and 5 are different but unable to snap any picture as the classes were going on.

The new hair dryers are fixed.

All the lockers are re-painted and all the broken locks are repaired. Now, all the lockers are usable.

The showers have been replaced with the new ones but the curtains are yet to put up. So, all the shower cabins are not usable at the moment.

My Another Sunday Yoga Activity on 12th Oct 2008

It is great as today is Sunday, another busy off working day for me as planned to go to Taman Tasik Permaisuri as never seen nor visit any outdoor yoga yet. Then, need to go to Ojas Yoga as have made a reservation of Intro Yoga class.

Okay, woke up early in the morning as need to search for the Light Yoga ourdoor practice as never been Taman Tasik Permaisuri for about 15 years.

By the time I stepped into the park, I told myself: "Gosh, how to find the Light Yoga group!" The park was so crowded althogh it was early morning @ 7:30am. At glance, I saw so many groups of activities such as kung fu, qi kung (I guess), dancing and etc but no yoga. So, just kept walking follow the jogging track. Finally, I found the group by hearing "Inhale, Exhale, haha... so fammiliar". They are in fact set up a nice place next to the Stadium Bola Sepak. Please refer to the map below which I have marked their location in the park, if you plan to join their outdoor yoga on every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month in future.
Please click the above map to enlarge it for better view

There were 2 different classes on going at the same time. The lft side in the picture was the Hatha class conducted by Grady while the right side was PW class by Thomas.

The place there is nice as open air, so fresh.... However, the practitioners must be very focus and concentrate as a lot of distraction due to the park is so busy and crowded. There are so many people walking around and some of them are curious and stopped by to watch. You can see from the picture below, this is only part of the people (including the kids) standing in front of the practitioners and watched.

I'm one of the culprits this morning caused the distraction while capturing the pictures. So sorry to them....

I wonder why other kung fu and dancing groups were no being surrounded by the people like yoga. May be it is new in the park and the regular visitors there never seen before and curious. It may be good to advertise "YOGA" to more people.

After visited the outdoor yoga at Taman Tasik Permaisuri, I proceed to Bukit Jalil to attend Serena's Intro Yoga.

The class was great! It was about 90 minutes Intro Yoga which is really benefit to those yoga beginners like me as Serena explained in details beside doing asana. She talked about our body's 12 joints (arm - shoulders, elbows and wrists; leg - hips, knees and ankles), internal and external rotation, balancing, how to use the right muscle to protect ourselves and not to hyper-extend to avoid any injury and etc.

The studio was so windy this morning, felt like practicing yoga in a park or onboard a ship, haha...

After the class, Serena attended to few students' queries by giving them some personal guidance and advice.

So, it will be opened on 15th Oct (Wed) and free trial classes for 2 weeks. As for the schedule, please check out the Urban Yoga Blog as they will update there once it is ready.

Will try to post more information once I got it. So, enjoy your yoga practice. Cheers ^_^

Yin Yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures for three to five minutes at a time. It is the ideal complement to more muscular or “Yang” forms of Yoga. A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. In this way it prepares the body and the mind for longer meditation practices. By drawing the student’s awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones a deep level of relaxed focus is achieved.

Yang Yoga is a dynamic practice, which cultivates the raise of energy from within. It will start with series of standing postures and ending with inversions. In this practice, correct alignment of each posture and the flow of the sequence will be precise and logical. This is a complementary practice against to Yin which brings strength to the muscles and the joints of the body.

Course Director - Victor Chng
Victor met Paul Grilley – the founder of Yin Yoga in 2004 Dec and has completed a teacher training with Paul on Yin Yoga and Anatomy for Yoga. He continues to study with Paul and Sarah Power on a residential yoga teacher training program at San Francisco in Feb 2007. Victor is greatly in-depth to his teachers on giving him permission to teach Yin Yoga and to continue exploring this path with his own intuitive knowledge. Since 2005, Victor has been teaching Yin Yoga in Singapore, Thailand Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. He also runs Yin Yoga Teacher Training. Ojas Yoga (4)

Today really is a nice Sunday with so many yoga events. Couldn’t attend all and I have chosen to attend the Ojas Yoga Trial Class which I have made the reservation earlier. It was GREAT!

I thought I was attending a workshop instead of a trial class this morning. Gilbert made the class so lively and relaxed. He gave a short lecture of 45 minutes to introduce yoga, about the purpose and benefit of yoga, the safety of doing the postures, the balancing and etc. He talked and demonstrated in a humorous way and made the class’ atmosphere so lively, relaxed and filled with joy and laughter, not bored at all on the lecture. Thereafter, we have an hour of yoga practice in a nice environment where the studio equipped with nice flooring and quality mats, and most important has very good air ventilation as the sliding doors are opened and facing greenery (see the pictures below or better pay a visit there to experience it as hard to describe in words).

I really regretted why didn’t attend Gilbert’s class when I was a member at YZ. Thought that he was the Yoga Chief of YZ so must be conducting advance classes. As a beginner, I only chose to attend those Element or other basic classes. Really a loss…!

Brief Introduction
There are 3 studios. The biggest studio is located at the Mezzanine Floor while the medium and small (not really small) studios are located at the First Floor. The trial classes are conducted at the First Floor as the Mezzanine Floor is still under construction and estimated to be ready in another 2 weeks time. As such, unable to view it yet. There will have shower cabins and lounge at the Mezzanine Floor as well but can only view it when it is ready.

The air ventilation here is very good as this is a corner lot and facing to greenery. The flooring is nice and good quality mats are provided. There are balconies outside each studio at the First Floor and there are some plants at the balconies. Nice view...

Okay, let share some snapshots. Sorry that the pictures are not so sharp as too excited and a bit blur this morning, didn’t set a high resolution while capturing the picture…

Being the first day of soft launching, it considered very successful. There is quite good response today and some first time visitors already signed up as most considered the fee is reasonable for the quality provided. Anyway, have found out some details about the packages offered as per below:
Unlimited Class @ RM180 per month but will be limited to 300 members only as Ojas Yoga's mission is to focus on the quality and safety of the students. Once this limit is achieved, whoever interested may purchase the Passes @ RM25 per pass.

PROMOTION
Unlimited Class
3-Month @ RM540 + FOC 1-Month (limited to first 100 members)
3-Month @ RM540 + FOC 10 Passes (limited to the next 50 members)
1-Month @ RM180 + FOC 5 Passes (the balance of the 150 members)

*Note: Once the above Unlimited Membership is expired, the member is given 7 days grace period for renewal. Failing which, the vacancy of Unlimited Membership will be released for others.

Passes
Each Pass @ RM25
20 Passes @ RM500 + FOC 10 Passes
10 Passes @ RM250 + FOC 5 Passes

* Note: The Passes are valid for 1-year.

Payment Method
Cash or Cheque at the moment due to the Credit Card facility is not ready yet. This card payment facility will be available once it is installed.

So, do bring along your cheque book or cash if you are keen to join this nice yoga center. However, they do accept RM50 deposit to reserve the Unlimited Class Packages and to pay the balance later as most of the participants interested to buy the 3-month package but didn’t bring so much cash for the class this morning.

Slight Changes on Trial Classes' Time
There are slight changes on the timing of the next 5 days Trial Classes. The 11:00am class changed to 10:30am and the 5:15pm class changed to 5:30pm. Please refer to my earlier post "Ojas Yoga (3)" on 29 Sep 2008 for this week Trial Class' schedule (lazy to scan their schedule, heehee...)
